Cycling is a national obsession in France and on every road you are sure to see overweight, middle aged men, crammed into tight fitting lycra, pounding the pedals.

We guessed you’d probably prefer something a little more sedate so we have nine bicycles in the barn for you to use. If you turn left out of the driveway and head down to the river there is a quiet road running along the river bank into Clairac, or alternatively take any of the roads heading up the hill opposite and you’ll find yourself in wonderful rolling countryside.

The Lot et Garonne provides superb walking country; a land of gently sloping hills and sunflower covered valleys, where the village heritage is as rich and varied as the ever changing landscape. There are over 150 well marked footpaths to choose from, arranged in circuits or straight along the ancient pilgrim’s route. There are as many varieties of walks as there are landscapes; from flat valley floors and winding river paths, to gently-sloped hill climbing or forays through the pine forests.

There is a very well kept and under-used tennis court in Granges-sur-Lot, five minutes from La Bique. Book at the Mairie (the town hall) in the village square in Granges.
